 Kravis Leadership Institute Mission Statement
The mission of the Kravis Leadership Institute at Claremont McKenna College is to be the premier academic center for the promotion and understanding of responsible, innovative leadership and to provide unique opportunities for CMC students to develop as outstanding real world leaders in the public, private and social sectors.
The Henry Kravis Leadership Institute sponsors a sound education program of leadership studies at Claremont McKenna College. CMC students are encouraged to develop their full potential through curricular and experiential learning. Programs include the Leadership Studies Sequence (equivalent to a minor in leadership studies), Leadership Workshops, and Summer Internships. The Institute publishes a quarterly newsletter, Illumine; and Leadership Review, a professional quarterly Internet journal with a leadership focus, both of which offer students the opportunity for editorial experiences.
Research programs focus on expanding our knowledge and understanding of leadership and organizational effectiveness as the Institute contributes to the growing body of knowledge in the field. Students from all disciplines work in the Institute, conducting research with Institute faculty, participating in community outreach projects, and engaging in independent study. Step Up to Leadership draws nationwide high school students to an intensive week-long summer leadership camp.
The Institute hosts national conferences, local workshops, and speaker series with a focus on outreach programs that enhance the development of young leaders and the leadership capabilities of the larger community. The annual Kravis-de Roulet Leadership Conference brings together practitioners and academicians to explore current research and exchange ideas about leadership. Mentoring, Civic Leadership, and Organizational Consulting classes contribute to the community through practical student application of classroom learning.

Leading Social Change: Entrepreneurial Solutions, Cross-Sector Collaborations
The 19th annual Kravis-de Roulet leadership conference, Leading Social Change, will highlight the efforts of social entrepreneurs as they strive to “change the world” through innovative solutions to global social problems. The conference will focus on the future of social entrepreneurship in the coming decades and how cross-sector collaborations fuel social entrepreneurial ventures.

About the Infiniteams Study
The Infiniteams (by TPLD) transdisciplinary research experiment continues during the Spring 2008 semester! In conjunction with KLI, Claremont Graduate University doctoral students Ugur Kaplancali (School of Information Systems & Technology) and Timothy Lisk (School of Behavioral & Organizational Sciences) are examining leadership behavior and the use of player generated content in a multiplayer online environment. Recent Happenings:
Step Up to Leadership - June 14-26, 2008
TWO amazing sessions were held this summer, June 14-19 and June 21-26, to accomodate more students this year. Participants came from 11 states and 38 schools, creating two groups of intelligent, energetic and diverse high school students.The goal of Step Up to Leadership is to provide high school students with the knowledge and skills to develop leadership competence and character. The program is offered to invited participants who are nominated by their high school, and is held on the Claremont McKenna College campus. Applications for Step Up to Leadership 2009 will be available from your high school activities director, guidance counselor, or from your principal's office in the Spring of 2009. Inquiries should be directed to those individuals first to determine if your school is a participant in the program. Program funding is dependent on gifts, scholarships, and grants.

Henry R. Kravis Prize in Leadership - April 10, 2008
Claremont McKenna College presented its four annual Henry R. Kravis Prize in Leadership award on April 10, 2008 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Nonprofits in America: Anatomy of a Nonprofit
An intensive four-day workshop was open to all CMC students with an interest in nonprofit organizations and the social sector. Those interested in starting a nonprofit, leading a nonprofit or understanding the social sector, participated in a seminar led by Tim Delaney who shared his experience in the social sector, legal profession and current leadership of the Center for Leadership, Ethics and Public Service.
